Introduction to Programming and Modeling Solar Energy Systems with Python

About

Do you care about your community and want to face climate change? Are you keen on programming? If so, enroll in this course to learn on how to use Phyton for solar energy!

This course works as an introduction to programming with Pyhton in the modeling of solar energy systems, offering a basic training in both the technology, the specific aspects of the technology, and specific systems to these applications (photovoltaic modules, flat-plate solar collectors, plants and production systems, etc.), as well as on the production plants and the Python programming language itself. You will (1) study the fundamentals of programming; (2) analyze and visualize all data, and (3) learn on solar energy to (4) finally develop modeling with Python. Through a combination of practical and theoretical methods, you will learn the fundamentals of programming while visiting some of the most cutting edge research centers on solar energy in Spain.

In addition to the academic content, our Study Abroad courses include an attractive cultural programme full of activities and trips especially for you, so that you can make the most of your stay in our city and university!

Note: you can find more detailed information on our website.

Course leader

José Alfonso Romero Ramos & Manuel Pérez García

Target group

Undergraduated, and master students.

Course aim

1. Knowing the basics of Python programming and the fundamentals of solar thermal and photovoltaic solar energy, as well as the elements that make up the solar installations.

2. Becoming familiar with a scientific calculation (quantitative estimation of the solar resource)

3. Being able to solve problems by writing scripts and to manage information and knowledge in their disciplinary field.

4. Getting calculation skills that allow for the design and basic dimensioning of the elements that make up the elements that make up thermal and photovoltaic installations.

5. Developing skills of initiation to research in solar energy.
