Investment Decisions in the Digital World

About

The international summer school 2017 in Berlin offers students a practitioner’s introduction to the world of international finance and corporate investment decisions.

How do you raise funding for a business as an entrepreneur? Assume you are the shareholder of one of Berlin’s many vibrant start-ups. Or, sitting on the other side of the table, what are your steps to undertake as a potential investor into the same business? How do economic environment, financial markets and technological disruptions in our digitally driven world affect your funding strategy? In this summer school you will be put into the shoes of both entrepreneurs and investors and learn how financial market participants arrive at investment decisions by applying the corporate and project finance toolset.

This event offers you a hands-on perspective on corporate finance and investment decision taking, with case studies, coaching by experts, and excursions to companies and investors. In a modular fashion, you will acquire a corporate finance toolset along with the practical knowledge required to make informed financial decisions.

Clearly, the world of finance is getting ever more complex. Not only are financial deals increasingly professionalized and internationalized, but also are we witnessing monetary experiments of central banks around the globe, leading to low interest rates, excess liquidity, and systemic fragility. Any practitioner’s competence to operate in such an environment presupposes a thorough understanding of the economic system as a whole and of financial markets in particular. Mainstream paradigms taught by textbook economic theory ever since WW2 will be challenged by practical market experience and alternative views such as those exhibited by the “Austrian” school of economics.

Join us in this summer school and develop state-of-the-art financial expertise! In goes without saying that you will be granted enough time to explore the vibrant city of Berlin in summertime.
