Archaeology in the Fiora Valley

About

Fancy an archaeological campaign in Tuscany?
The “La Biagiola” International School of Archaeology (B.I.S.A.): Seasonal Sessions (Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer) MASTERCLASSES is an immersive program offering two or four weeks of hands-on archaeological training. It explores the rich history of ancient Etruscan, Roman, and Lombard civilizations through a blend of traditional fieldwork and modern digital technologies like 3D modeling, GIS, and S.L.A.M. techniques.
Participants engage in archaeological excavation, cultural communication, and landscape archaeology studies in Tuscany, under the guidance of expert archaeologists.
The program also includes cultural excursions and leisure activities, enriching the overall experience.
The activity will focus on the evolution of a 7th-century BCE Etruscan necropolis and its associated complex road network (rock-cut roads). Another important focus will be the multi-layered site of 'La Biagiola,' which spans from the Etruscan period to the Middle Ages in terms of occupation. Initial phase surveys, as well as cataloging and restoration activities, will also be conducted.
Sessions will be held in October, February, and May, with a double summer session in July and August.
