In the beginning was the word - or was it? We'll explore what pieces of literature, from ancient epic to modern poetry, have been doing in the world and in human society. Here are a few of the questions we might touch on:
Where do myths come from and how do they work?
What do we need stories and characters for?
What do Freud, Marx and anarchism have to do with literature?
There's no preliminary reading and no requirement. You should be happy to discuss books in English and engage with the language, but you need no previous experience.
