Ocean Exploration for Offshore Renewable Energy

About

The shallow seabed of continental shelves is critical to a sustainable future, as it provides a potential home for the urgent expansion of offshore windfarms. This seafloor can also, however, host fragile ecosystems and cultural heritage.

Target group

This International Summer School programme is aimed at 18+ international students from all over the world, including international students currently studying in the UK. This course is based on a University of Southampton postgraduate module and is designed to give you a taste of postgraduate life and education at Southampton.

Course aim

This course illustrates the different methods used to characterise the seabed, a crucial step in responsible net-zero development. It will show how experts from a range of disciplines (e.g. Engineering, Oceanography, Marine Geophysics, Archaeology) are needed for these projects, and how they collaborate to achieve sustainable development in the offshore environment.
