About

Motivation and self-leadership are essential skills for success in any field. This course offers research-based insight into what drives people to perform, how to manage stress effectively, and how to build a healthy and empowering work environment. Drawing on the Scandinavian work-life tradition, you will learn practical strategies to enhance motivation, develop self-leadership, and create balance and well-being in everyday life

Course aim

Learning outcomes - Knowledge

Students will gain knowledge about:

Central factors that describe and contribute to a healthy psychosocial work environment
Central theories and research on motivation, including different practices that facilitate job engagement and empowerment
Central theories and research about stress, including job insecurity and technostress, and how to handle stress in a functional way
Central theories and research covering topics like procrastination, self-leadership, and super-leadership in the workplace, including concrete tools to conduct self-leadership and super-leadership

Learning outcomes - Skills

The course will provide the skills needed to:

Apply basic knowledge about the psychosocial work environment to actively contribute to a good psychosocial work environment where you work
Apply basic knowledge about motivation and stress in the workplace to highlight and facilitate the creation of an engaging and motivating workplace for oneself and co-workers
Apply concrete tools for self-leadership to lead yourself in a constructive and productive way and avoid procrastination (unnecessary postponement behavior)
Guiding others to lead themselves, i.e. performing super-leadership

General Competence

The course will introduce central terms, theories and models within research and knowledge about the psychosocial work environment, a motivating work life, and self-leadership. A lot of emphasis is placed on the practical side of these topics, allowing for self-reflection and self-development, group discussions, and practical skills training. Topics are typically seen from different perspectives, like the leader-, co-worker- and HR-perspectives
