Play is examined as a cultural, developmental and pedagogical phenomenon, and as a site of politics. The student becomes acquainted with different theories and play environments, as well as narrative learning and the observation, planning and guidance of play.

Target group

University students and graduates from around the world.

Course aim

The student:

-develops an understanding of the significance of play in the early development of the child and as a central activity of each child
-accumulate knowledge of the main theories and the developmental stages of play
-understands play as the content and context of learning
-develops skills to guide and use play as a versatile pedagogical method
-understands the significance of play in the participation and peer relationships of the children
-develops knowledge of how to arrange the play environment in a creative manner
-understands play as political phenomenom that involve morals, ethics, values and power
