Politics, Ethics and Health Economics

About

Hardly a week goes by without some new debates about health production and resource allocation and its public policies (governance, financing). Questions about the right definition of health, about the legitimate scope of public policies pertaining to health or about the pros and cons of making a matter of personal responsability some elements of service provision are all hugely controversial. These issues in Health Ethics, Politics and Economics will be the main focus of the course.

The course will be of interest to those wishing to specialize in this area, with a background in medicine, in economics, political science or philosophy. It will also be of interest to those working in the health service.

Course aim

The course aims to give the student the theoretical instruments and knowledge to apprehend those debates concerning public Health. It will explore the central ethical and political problems facing health policy and public health in France and abroad, and will offer a comprehensive view of the main questions addressed by health economics, with a particular attention to macroeconomic issue (such as the relationship between income, development, growth and health care expenditures) and Comparative Healthcare Systems.
