The summer school aims to familiarize the participants with relevant biological concepts from systems and synthetic biology, with mathematical modeling strategies and appropriate technologies and software tools. The programme consists of these modules:

- Cell factory design and optimization – examples from bacterial and fungal production platforms
- Transcriptomics and Proteomics – Principles, data handling and (joint) comparative profiling
- Mathematical modelling for Systems Biology
- Synthetic Biology – From modular biologic devices to synthetic gene networks for microbial, plant and mammalian systems
- Metabolomics – From stoichiometric models to metabolic flux analysis
- Integrative bioinformatics for genome-scale multiple level network reconstruction
- Microbial strain optimization in the context of bioeconomy

The course consists of formal lectures, case studies and tutorials for hands-on experience with state-of-the-art tools.
