Social and Economic Approach to Stigma

About

According to Goffman, social stigma is the devaluation of a group's social identity based on a gross characteristic, which is evaluated negatively in a specific context. In this section, the social implications of stigma will be studied, which are mainly manifested by the unequal treatment of individuals or groups, based on some stereotype. However, mention will also be made of the economic approaches to stigma, since this can directly affect both the professional career of individuals who accept such prejudices and the respective health institution.
