About

In this summer school you will find out more about how social circumstances can impact on the health and well-being of a population. The course highlights the challenges facing society when considering these issues. Content includes: Definitions of Health, Social determinants of health, history of public health, public health research/epidemiology and other factors influencing Public Health such as substance use and misuse. There will also be sessions relating to academic writing and review of national and international polices. Key researchers in the field will share their expertise to allow you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced, and the strategies that can be used to address them.

Course delivery includes a combination of keynote lectures and student-led tutorials. Students will draw on experiences from their own perspective during tutorials. There will also be visits to external centres and projects relating to the topic area. Examples include the Scottish Parliament, hospitals, research units and a sexual health clinic.

1800 GBP, 3-week version - includes: Accommodation on campus (private room) Airport pick-up and drop-off Social activities - day trips, walking tours and even a 'Ceilidh' (traditional Scottish live music event) For 2-week version, fee is reduced to ÂŁ1,200 GBP and includes the above.
