This course introduces to the theory and to the statistical analysis of the spatial theory of voting. Starting with Downs’ seminal work, we delineate core assumptions and the conceptual development until most recent publications. The appropriate translation of these appoaches into a statistical model requires the application of so-called conditional logit models – practicing these models will be the core objective of this course.
