Summer School Bovec

About

The Summer School Bovec is a unique, two-week educational experience taking place in the picturesque town of Bovec, located in Slovenia in the Soča Valley, the heart of the Alps-Adriatic region.
Each year, the Summer School Bovec is dedicated to a specific topic, exploring it through a trans cultural, interdisciplinary and multilingual approach.
By attending the Summer School Bovec, participants will not only have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of one of the languages of the Alps-Adriatic region (German, Italian, Slovenian, Croatian or Friulan) but also to experience multilingualism and intercultural dialogue first-hand. The Summer School’s innovative format also promotes an understanding of the historical, social and economic contexts that characterize the Alps-Adriatic region as the interface of three language families and a microcosm of the European continent.
The Summer School Bovec is organized by the University of Klagenfurt (Austria) in collaboration with the Universities of Trieste, Udine (Italy), Ljubljana, Koper (Slovenia), Rijeka, Osijek (Croatia), and under the auspices of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Research

Target group

Applicants must fulfill the following prerequisites:

- be regularly enrolled at one of the partner universities in Slovenia, Italy, Croatia or at Austrian universities or other Austrian Higher Education institutions.

- actively take examinations (at least 8 ECTS credits in WS 2024/25, or at least 5 ECTS credits on average in the last three semesters) or actively conducting research (PhD/Doctorate)

- have a good knowledge of one of the Summer School languages: Slovene, Italian, Croatian, German and/or Friulan, and an interest in learning or improving on another of these languages during the Summer School

Course aim

Participants have the opportunity to:
• Attend an Intensive Language Course in one of the following Alps-Adriatic languages: German, Italian, Slovenian, Croatian or Friulian;
• Deepen their knowledge of this year´s General Topic by engaging in Scientific Lectures and Workshops led by experts from different countries and academic disciplines;
• Gain exciting insights into the history and rich cultural and natural heritage of the region during Cultural Excursions;
• Build up an International Network in the Alps-Adriatic region.
