Join the third edition of the Summer School 'The European Identity: Past, Present and Future' at the University of Strasbourg, from June 16th to 26th, 2026!

Located in the heart of Strasbourg—a city home to major European institutions—this two-week programme offers a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of European culture, politics, law, history, economy, and society.

During this two-week period, you will attend high-quality interdisciplinary courses taught by renowned professors and researchers with international experience. This broad scope of topics will provide an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of European integration, governance, and global challenges. Academic courses will go hand in hand with meetings and discussions with representatives of European institutions, as well as guided tours, allowing you to experience Europe both inside and outside the classroom, with a hint of "French touch".

Target group

The Summer School welcomes undergraduate and graduate students who have an interest in European Affairs, International Relations, and Political Science.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a higher education institution and should have at least a B2 level in English (according to the CEFR). All classes, lectures, and visits will be delivered in English. No prior French knowledge is expected.

Course aim

When viewed from distant corners of the world, Europe is frequently perceived as a unified union. But what does being European truly mean? How does one experience it in their daily life? How has this notion of 'European identity' been constructed, and how can it evolve? These very inquiries constitute the aim of this two-week Summer School.

Overview of the academic courses:
- European History and Construction
- Institutions and Policies of the European Union
- Analysing the Notion of European Constitutional Heritage
- Introduction to the European Convention on Human Rights
- European Economy
- EU Common Foreign and Security Policy as a way to reinforce the European identity
