The European Union describes vulnerable groups as those that experience a higher risk of poverty and social exclusion than the general population. These groups include, for instance, ethnic minorities, migrants, disabled people, those struggling with substance abuse but also sexual minorities and younger people. The persistently higher vulnerability of specific societal groups in the labour market has become of growing concern to individuals, political leaders, and academics in Europe. As the labour market is generally perceived as a safeguard against poverty not only through the provision of income but also as a source of self-worth and important networks and social ties, having access to continuous work might be crucial as it may reverse an otherwise downward spiral for vulnerable groups in society. Yet, the identification of vulnerable groups in different European surveys is often challenging, especially when employing an intersectional perspective.

To this end, experts with expertise in the (ex-post) harmonisation of European survey data and the construction of compositional indicators of (labour market) vulnerability, are invited to participate in this InGRID-2 expert workshop.
Requirements for attending the expert workshop are:
• experience in research into labour market vulnerability;
• experience with data harmonisation and/or indicator building.
The InGRID-2 project aims at harmonising European survey data to better identify the (combinations) of individual-level characteristics that predict the extent to which people are in a vulnerable labour market position, as well as developing multidimensional indicators that allow for the comparison of vulnerable groups’ position across EU member states and over time.
