Postcolonial and decolonial theories have challenged conventional narratives and amplified marginalized voices within the humanities and beyond. These frameworks have unearthed hidden legacies of colonialism, prompted critical engagement with issues of identity and representation, and enriched our understanding of cultural diversity. They continue to foster discussions about power, knowledge, and social justice in contemporary societies.
This summer university course offers an exploration of postcolonial and decolonial theory with a specific focus on the theme of "encounters." It introduces participants to key authors and foundational concepts within these theoretical frameworks and gives students space to reflect on their own research interests. The course places particular emphasis on exploring various types and dimensions of encounters, including colonial rule, cultural diversity in postcolonial societies, language contact and multilingualism.
Ana Paulla Braga Mattos, Georg Fischer and Derek Pardue
To apply for the course you must either be enrolled in a bachelor's degree, have a bachelor's degree or have passed a qualifying entry examination.
