The summer school is aimed at students who would like to enhance and deepen their general knowledge of Estonia and its experience of transition from USSR to a modern EU country. During the school, students will have opportunity to learn about Estonian history, its political and social developments, Europeanization processes and national minorities issue, integration to EU and reform experience. As Estonia is well-known for its e-oriented society, the school will also largely focus on principles of e-democracy and e-governance and introduce the main e-services developed in the country.
The programme is not only rich in terms of lectures and classes, but it also implies obtaining first-hand experience from visits to leading think-tanks, entrepreneurial hubs and e-showroom, NGOs and governmental institutions. School programme also consists of intercultural non-formal and active learning, i.e. a decision-making stimulation exercise, team-building activities and workshops.
The school is open to students of political science, international relations, public administration and related fields in their B.A. and M.A. years who would like to enhance and deepen their general knowledge of Estonia and its experience of transition from USSR to a modern EU country.
During the two weeks, participants will enjoy daily social and cultural activities such as Tartu and Tallinn city tours, Estonian cultural evening, visits to numerous Estonian museums, movie nights, pub crawl and star watching. The programme does not only suggest classes and activities in Tartu and Tallinn, but also offers a ‘forest school’ during the trips to Taevaskoja and Seto settlements, hiking through Valgesoo bogs and climbing Estonia’s highest mountain Suur Munamägi. In Tallinn, the students will have an opportunity to visit Occupation Museum, KGB museum, KUMU or Kadriorg museum (upon request) among planned visits to National Democracy institute, Open Society Foundation, MEKTORY, Technopolis, Seaplane Harbour museum and House of Europe.
