The course examines the origins, structures, and modes of action of the United Nations in the field of economic and social development. The goal of the course is to provide the knowledge of the complex articulation of the "UN System" (major organs, funds, programs, specialized agencies), external and internal constraints to the effectiveness of the interventions, as well as the ways in which these interventions are implemented. The second part is focused on the fieldwork and the project management of the United Nations, through country cases, and analysis of projects and programs, in order to understand the constraints of a real-effectiveness of UN interventions in the developing countries, providing finally, some insights on the new lines of action that guide the United Nations in promoting development.
