About

The 8th edition of the Music as Heritage summer course focuses on Roma music and musicians. Reflecting the dynamism of this community and its living heritage, the program brings together interdisciplinary perspectives through lectures, masterclasses, and discussion panels led by experts in ethnomusicology. Participants also take part in a structured project development program that invites them to explore and bring in their own or others’ cultural heritage, working closely with mentors and presenting their outcomes at the end of the course. A two-day field trip to Slovakia, live music events, and a visit to a Roma dance competition further enrich the learning experience.

Maintaining its hallmark blend of student involvement, field trip, personal and collaborative work, the course encourages participants to inspire one another, raise new questions, and access the most relevant academic and professional inputs. It provides an optimal environment for experiential learning and individually tailored trajectories. This year’s focus on Europe’s largest stateless community highlights a cultural tradition whose influence across the continent has been immeasurable.

Limited number of tuition waivers and scholarships are available.
