Across the globe, higher education leaders are united by a shared belief that student learning matters, and that developing educatorsβ pedagogical skills enhances educational quality and equality. Yet, opportunities for teaching development remain inconsistentβtoo often absent, under-resourced, or lacking institutional leadership. Meanwhile, university educators are facing complex new challenges: responding to the rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI), addressing demands for inclusion and equality, navigating sensitive or contested topics in the classroom, and adapting to rapid changes within a sector under pressure.
This one-week intensive program supports higher education lecturers and emerging leaders in professionalizing teaching, responding to new trends, and driving positive change within their institutions. It offers a concise yet systematic development of key knowledge, skills, and mindsets in the design, delivery, and assessment of university teaching.
Limited number of tuition waivers and scholarships are available.
Claire Gordon (Eden Centre for Education Enhancement, London School of Economics); Tamara Kamatovic (Yehuda Elkana Center for Teaching, Learning and Higher Education Research, Central European University)
The course intends to bring together two larger groups: university teachers and (current or future) agents of change in educational development activities. The latter group consists of department heads, program leads, members of centers for teaching and learning, and other trainers and leaders of change.
We envisage that the course could be beneficial for:
- faculty members interested in improving and evaluating their own teaching and who are committed to promote course and teaching innovation within their departments and universities
- university teachers, interested in becoming either advisors for peers in their subject areas and/or trainers/moderators of educational development programs or facilitators of change of teaching and learning practices at their institution
- university teachers who need to demonstrate credentials or ongoing professional development for purposes of institutional hiring, tenure, and promotion
- leaders and staff members of projects, units, training and advisory centers, committees within universities that promote excellence in teaching
