Curious how a stem cell decides what it will become? Or how thousands of cells can be analyzed at once to reveal hidden biological patterns? At the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Summer School, you won’t just read about it, you’ll do it yourself.

Through Python sessions in Jupyter notebooks, you’ll learn to process real single-cell RNA sequencing data, filter noise, detect differentially expressed genes and identify distinct cell populations based on marker signatures.

Once you master the bioinformatics workflow, we’ll take things a step further. You’ll reconstruct gene regulatory networks using tools like pySCENIC, learn how genes control each other, and simulate cell fate decisions using Boolean models inspired by real biological research. By the end, you won’t just understand transcriptomics, you’ll be able to model how cells think

Target group

If you’re a Bachelor or Master student with a basic background in programming and molecular biology, this course will give you the computational superpowers needed for modern biology

Fee info

The cost of this program is €1350. The cost breakdowns as follows: Tuition fees; Accommodation in Brno (12-25 July); Orientation; Daily cultural and social activities including welcome and farewell receptions; Saturday trip to one of the local Czech UNESCO sites; 24/7 support. Students should budget an additional €200-500 depending on their spending habits for food (lunch, dinner) and other expenses. Public transport ticket is in additional costs.
