Reading Theatre: a Play a Weekonline course
This six-week online evening course at Guildhall School of Music & Drama will see you form your very own theatre book club. You will read a different play text each week in your own time and each session will be the opportunity for you to discuss and explore it with the group and the course tutors. The plays will cover a range of playwrights, genres, styles and subjects.
Tuesday evenings on 27 April, 4, 11, 18, 25 May and 1 June 2021
The course has been developed by Emily Berrington and Ben Lloyd-Hughes, who both trained at Guildhall. They have both performed extensively on stage and screen.
- Anyone aged 18 and over, with an interest in theatre and who would like to gain a deeper understanding of different theatre genres and playwrights.
- Anyone who enjoys lively, impassioned and informative conversation in an informal environment.
Extracts from the texts will be read aloud with the course tutors who will host open, relaxed discussions about the themes, ideas, language, and most importantly your responses to the play. We will explore six different play texts and bring in experienced actors and directors to discuss how they would go about approaching them.
You will be encouraged to offer ideas and opinions to the discussions, but with no pressure or expectation. If you simply want to listen, that is welcome too!
