Many cities around the world are becoming smart cities by using networked, digital technologies to control infrastructures and manage city services and systems, such as centralized control rooms, intelligent transport systems, smart energy grids, and sensor networks. These technologies generate vast streams of data and employ forms of artificial intelligence that enable automated and action in systems that are often opaque.

Course leader

Ivan Gutierrez specializes in academic and business writing, editing, translation and philosophy. After graduating from the State University of New York at Binghamton with a double B.A. in philosophy and mathematics.

Target group

High School Graduates, University Students. GSSP welcomes university students, high school students, and non-student audiences as well, but the minimum age requirement for the GSSP is 18.

Course aim

Learning Outcomes
Distinguish the positions of leading thinkers who have dealt with the theme of technological change and social development and explain arguments for and against those positions.
Compare and contrast the different themes relating to technological change and social development and make coherent arguments based on a solid grasp of those themes.
Apply analytical tools to assess current and emerging technologies.
Develop a nuanced, well-considered and independent viewpoint on present-day discussions regarding technological change and social development.
Navigate challenging texts.
Relate their own lived experience to themes that shed light on their relationships to technology.

Credits info

Participants, who wish to receive an official AAU transcript upon completion of a GSSP course, must comply with the following eligibility criteria and requirements: GPA min. 2.5 (according to last university semester transcript or high school diploma)

Fee info

EUR 1450: You can take one course per each 3-week session If you wish to take 2 courses, you will need to attend both sessions. The price per session is 1450 EUR, and both sessions are 2900 EUR.
