Diversity and Inclusion at the Workplace
In recent years there has been an increased focus on building Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) structures in academia, policy, and by businesses. While developing and implementing D&I policies presents a step towards employing diverse talent, diversity can only bring benefits when workers come together to work inclusively on tasks and pool their diverse talents and cognitive abilities. This course emphasizes this important connection between D&I policyand communication by identifying and exploring the inclusive communication practices needed to lead, manage, and work with people from diverse backgrounds. Learning about these communication skills in the workplace will benefit any student looking to work in the knowledge sector, on diverse teams, or part of the globalized economy. This is a practical course that goes beyond the theory of global competence and examines case studies, best practices, and presents applied tools to help students effectively communicate across different communication styles, interpersonal and team-based situations, develop inclusive presentations, and demonstrate sensitivity across diverse audiences and relationships.
