The employment of a fully-integrated strategy of deterrence is an example of an xtremely comlex system. The problem of integrating military means – conventional, nuclear, unconventional (cyber, space, information operatoins), defence – is difficult enough. But integrating military and non-military instruments of power to deter an adversary adds yet another level of complexity to the deterrence problem.

The course is intended for students of all levels.

Course aim

This course aims at providing students with basic knowledge of the complex relationship among the different aspects of deterrence in the context of NATO in the Cold War and NATO continues to adapt to a difficult set of challenges in a difficult security environment.
