About

The topic of the Summer School is related to wooden design and woodcraft that has traditionally been an important part of the daily lives of Latvians.

The Summer School offers a program consisting of lectures, workshops, presentations and discussions, company site visits, countryside visits, guided excursions and exciting parties.
The program will be conducted by a local team – designers, artists, technologists, designing engineers and invited experts. There will be lectures on design and Latvian identity, as well as on ethnographic finesse. In addition to the lecture program, practical work in groups will be carried out providing the possibility to work with historical woodworking tools and design wooden products.

Target group

Students from all over the world who are interested in wooden design.

Course aim

To offer possibility for students interested in wooden design to design wooden products while getting theoretical and practical knowledge of the contemporary and the ancient woodcraft tools, Latvian ethnographic symbols and their interpretations, as well as Latvian traditional festivities and traditions related to them.

Fee

500 EUR, The participation fee, covering registration, tuition, accommodation in a student hostel of RTU, meals (breakfast and lunch) and the social program is EUR 500. The participants will have to cover their travel expenses and health insurance.
