With four unique courses designed to challenge and inspire, our International Summer School 2025 is a fantastic opportunity to learn from industry experts, develop your portfolio and connect with like-minded students from around the world, all while exploring the stunning south coast of England.
Hosted by our Faculty of Media & Communication, you will gain hands-on experience in one of four areas:

Whether you’re looking to sharpen your skills or dive into a new creative field, our immersive summer courses are designed to inspire and empower international students to take their craft to the next level.

Target group

This Summer School is for you if:
You are a university student or just about to start university
You are aged 18 years or above
You have at least an intermediate level of English
You want to develop your English language skills and explore the rich diversity of the UK
You are eager to further your knowledge of a creative, media subject and develop your portfolio

Course aim

TV Studio Production Bootcamp
Become part of a tight-knit television production crew, producing on location field segments and bringing them back to the exciting environment of the live television studio. BU is home to two 4K television studios, inspired by BBC Television Centre. You will get hands-on with the same kit used by the top end of TV production. You will learn production skills, creating content, gaining understanding of audiences, genres and practical production skills. We will provide hands-on experience with vision mixers, pedestal cameras, camera control units, green screen, sound production and more. Delivered by experts and media practitioners, the course will also serve as an introduction to Bournemouth University's innovative Film, Television and Media Production programmes.

Scriptwriting: How to Write the Feature Film Treatment
Every great film starts with a compelling script. This exciting and intense course will take you through the process of developing an original Feature Film Treatment. The course will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop your ideas and the creative workshops will allow you the space and support to put those skills into practice. You will be expected to generate and share ideas and redraft those ideas throughout the two weeks. If you have always wanted to shape an idea into an engaging and well-crafted feature film story treatment, then this is the course for you.

Journalism & AI
This course offers a two-week immersive introduction to the changing world of journalism. Using artificial intelligence tools as well as learning core journalism skills, students will create content for a range of online platforms including social media, podcasts, video and our award-winning news website. The course will demystify the use of AI in journalism, providing hands-on experience with generative tools for newsgathering and content production. It will cover ethical considerations, practical applications, and the future of AI for journalistic storytelling. Delivered by experts and media practitioners, the programme will also serve as an introduction to our innovative MA Multimedia Journalism programme, which integrates AI into its curriculum.

Computer Animation & Digital Effects
Bournemouth University is home to one of the most prestigious animation departments in the world. With cutting-edge facilities and expert tutors, you’ll get a front-row seat to industry insights and the latest technology. This course offers practical workshops in 3D animation, character development, and visual storytelling. Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, this course will give you the tools to bring your imagination to life. By the end of this course participants will understand technical effects, understand the VFX production pipeline, learn digital acquisition skills, advanced modelling and simulation and compositing skills and enhance their portfolios.
