Our intensive Summer School programme teaches from the strengths of the Smith School for Enterprise and Environment at Oxford University, in environmental economics and policy, enterprise management, and financial markets and investment. We will explore how we study critical global environmental challenges in the 21st century through the combination of rigorous science and diverse stakeholder engagement and the value of the environment to enterprise.
Designed and delivered by Smith School faculty, the Summer School will explore leading Oxford research on subject-specific questions such as:
Is the 1.5 degree threshold of the Paris climate change agreement possible?
How does climate change affect economic stability?
How do financial markets drive long-term environmental decision-making?
What is the future of energy markets?
How can we safeguard clean water for everyone?
What can corporations do to protect biodiversity?
Dr Caitlin McElroy Professor Cameron Hepburn
The Summer School is particularly relevant for:
- Those already studying related topics at an undergraduate level who would like to supplement their current studies, which may be in fields such as finance, management, economics, geography, or the physical sciences.
- Those who are considering a Masters degree in a field related to the Summer School’s topics and would like an introduction to key issues.
- Undergraduates or graduates considering careers in enterprise and the environment who would like an overview of the sector.
The objectives of the programme are to provide you with:
• Exposure to the wide variety of ways in which enterprise interacts with the environment (for example, through operations, stakeholder relations, economic outcomes), creating both direct and indirect impacts.
• An introduction to the broad scope of scientific environmental research that is necessary for, and needed, by enterprises and the financial sector to address current and future challenges.
• An understanding of the structures and decision-making processes in global systems to individual enterprises which influence and impact upon achieving environmental sustainability and how to engage with them.
