Curating is a way of researching and reading different aesthetic realms and cultural lineages, composing them into shared pressing narratives and discussions. Great sensibility and respect for the place where it happens are essential to creating an āexhibitionary communityā of artworks, artefacts and people involved. Curatorial practice here means to depart from specific lines of inquiry into otherwise dispersed thematic threads or unexpected overlaps of visual regimes. The form taken by these knotted lines or junctures may range from one, two or several images of various provenances to historical events widely ranging in acknowledged importance; from an object to an anecdote; from occurrences to accounts. These items tend to be situated locally but are necessarily synonymous with experiences elsewhere. Students will reveal such sensibilities and learn how to shape such patterns of thought and representation. Beyond representation, students will engage with methods of an āexhibitionary communityā that dissect, expose and reveal modes of working.
