“Help!” Dimensions of Peace and Conflict Studies

The title of the Winter School is “Help!” refers to the two questions that are central to Peace and Conflict Studies: Where is help required? and How can help be offered?

One important aim of the Winter School is for participants to get an overview of the broad scope of Peace and Conflict Studies and to experience its interdisciplinary character. To that end we use a well-tried method: participants are asked to submit the outline of their research project or a paper they deem relevant in advance, which will be shared well before the start of the School with the other participants. Each participant will be asked to present and discuss someone else’s work (assigned by us) during the Winter School.

In addition, the Winter School will offer a wide range of lectures by specialists from academia and practice, a conflict resolution simulation training, and various social events.

Target group

This Winter School is designed for PhD candidates and Postdocs in the field of Peace and Conflict studies.

Participants must have a master’s degree in one of the disciplines comprising peace and conflict studies (e.g. history; international relations; social sciences; international law; religious studies) and be currently involved in PhD research or recently have finished a PhD project.

Course aim

After this course you will:

Be able to actively engage with representatives from other disciplines in the field of peace and conflict studies
Be able to present a paper from a participant from a different discipline
Have a acquired both a broad and in-depth overview of the disciplines involved in the field of peace and conflict studies
