The goal of the school is to provide a deep dive into Marine Informatics & Robotics. More specifically, the topics that will be addressed in this one-week program will include data science, data engineering, machine learning and AI for autonomous systems, but also multidisciplinary concepts such as design thinking and GIS storyboards. There will be a strong emphasis on the practical aspect of the learned concepts, during “on the water” testing experiments and sea trials of several robots. The format of this Summer School will consist of a mix of lectures, industrial talks and sea trials with on the water testing of robotic assets (at the university's dedicated sea testing facilities). These activities are interplayed with autonomous and supervised teamwork on project design, development and business planning; and team-building activities. The academic speakers are distinguished Professors and Researchers from top-level academic institutions and industry (Exail, Ploaetech, MarineTraffic, Ocean Autonomy Center, etc.). The topics that will be addressed in this one-week programme will include an introduction to informatics and robotics, covering technical topics such as data science, data collection and analysis, big data, machine learning, software engineering and mission planning for autonomous systems, but also concepts such as design thinking, GIS storyboards and ways of bringing innovations to market and business creation. The summer school will prepare teams to race in an autonomous vessel “Regatta”, the second edition of the Aegean Ro-boat Race.
Dimitris Zissis, Associate Professor at the University of the Aegean at the Department of Product & Systems Design Engineering
