The Public Health in Humanitarian Contexts summer school is led by experienced practitioners and researchers from humanitarian organizations working across crisis-affected settings, including Gaza, Sudan, Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Yemen. Through interactive sessions and in-depth case studies, participants will explore urgent public health priorities in humanitarian contexts through a lens of intersectionality and equity. Topics include communicable diseases and outbreak response; sexual and reproductive health and rights; sexual and gender-based violence; nutrition; mental health and psychosocial support; and palliative and end-of-life care

This course is open to all with an interest in health in humanitarian contexts:
Humanitarian responders including non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations
Medical doctors, nurses, public health professionals, epidemiologists, bioethicists, sociologists, anthropologists, communications and advocacy professionals, project managers
Policy makers including representatives of national and local authorities
(PhD) researchers, from any discipline but with an affinity with humanitarian response

Practitioners from different humanitarian organizations will provide interactive sessions, alternated by small group work, to address the following learning objectives:
Understand the key concepts related to public health in humanitarian contexts
Discuss key challenges related to public health in humanitarian contexts and strategies to address these
Apply concepts discussed within the course to humanitarian contexts such as Gaza, Sudan, Bangladesh, DR Congo, South Sudan and Yemen
