About

Objective
This online summer course over five half-days will introduce legal practitioners to practical aspects of European criminal justice. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of EU criminal law instruments, mutual recognition mechanisms, and the roles of key EU actors.

The course will also explore cross-border cooperation tools, digitalisation, AI applications, and procedural safeguards, emphasising their real-world application in investigations, prosecutions, and enforcement. By combining case examples, discussions, and expert insights, the course aims to equip practitioners with the knowledge and skills to navigate the evolving landscape of European criminal justice.

The institutional framework of European criminal justice
Mutual recognition in EU criminal law, including the EAW, EIO, EPO and CJEU case law
EU crimes and enforcement priorities, including cybercrime and corruption
Cross-border evidence and assets: e-evidence, freezing and confiscation, and JITs
Digitalisation and AI in cross-border criminal cooperation (e-CODEX, eEDES)
Europol, Eurojust, EJN, the EPPO and AMLA and their evolving mandates
